Coriander seeds Chutney-Kothamalli Thuvaiyal-Malli Thuvaiyal -Malli Thogayal

Coriander seeds/Kothamalli help lower cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar naturally. Amma used to make this thuvaiyal with variety rice like puliyotharai, lemon rice, curd rice or with Rice kanji(Congee). When we go for a picnic we usually pack this thuvaiyal with variety rice or with Idli. It tastes so amazing. I make this thuvaiyal often for variety rice, idli, dosa. It is so colourful, flavorful thuvaiyal.  The roasted coriander gives a good smell and flavour.

Lets see how to make this simple chutney.

Cooking Time : 10 mins

Serves: 2-3


  • Oil – 1 tbsp  
  • Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Dried Red chilli – 5
  • Garlic – 2 pods
  • Salt to taste
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind – a small piece


To a pan, add oil and roast coriander seeds, dried red chilli. Add garlic and roast it till its colour changes to golden. Then add tamarind piece and roast them all. Add  Grated coconut, required salt and asafoetida and put off the flame. Mix them well. Allow it to cool down Add it to the mixie jar and grind until the required consistency is made by adding water a little by little. It will be a little coarse only because of the coriander. The chutney wouldn’t be so soft and smooth Transfer it to a bowl and have it with your favorite variety rice, idli or dosa.
