Masi is cooked,smoked and hard dried Tuna fish and it is mostly produced in Maldives. It is also called as Maldives fish.It is used commonly in Maldivian and Srilankan Cusine and also in southern Indian states .They look like a chunk of wooden piece.They are also available now a days in pounded form in markets.We at home buy this chunks of masi and pound them with grinding stone into small pieces and then grind this in the mixie jar. Amma used to prepare this powdered masi in bulk.I used to bring this powdered masi from India and store it in an air tight container and place it in Refrigerator.This Masi Sambal is so easy and quick to make.It goes well with appam, Idiyappam and Rice flour Roti.

Serves : 2 – 3 persons
Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
Green chilli – 2 (finely chopped)
Coriander leaves – a few
Curry leaves – a few
Oil – 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Pounded masi powder – 2 tbsp
Coconut – freshly grated 1/2 cup
1.To a pan add oil.Add chopped onions.Cook till its color turns translucent.Add chopped green chilli.
2.Add chopped tomatoes,curry leaves,Coriander leaves and saute them well
3.Add Turmeric powder,Red chilli powder,Grated coconut.Mix them well.
4.Now add pounded masi powder into it and mix well.Check for salt. Masi dried fish already has salt in it .If salt is less add salt to it.Serve Masi sambal with Appam,Idiyappam or Rice.
