Paruppu kuzhambu / Dal curry is a very easy kuzhambu recipe.I made it with toor dal.You can also try it with moong dal.Its a mild curry .You can have it with some spicy side dish.It is thick in consistency and flavorful.Its different from sambar. We don’t use sambar powder or any masalas.We use grounded coconut,chilli and cumin seeds paste.You can also make this dish for your babies.Add little ghee to it and feed them.

Serves : 3 persons
Toor dal – 1/2 cup
Small onion – 12
Green chilli – 4
Garlic – 5
Tomato – 1(finely chopped)
Asafoetida – a pinch
Grated Coconut – 1/3 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Dried round red chilli – 5
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig
Coriander leaves – a few
Oil – 1 tbsp
1.To a mixie jar add coconut,green chillies and cumin seeds.Grind it into a fine smooth paste.
2.To a pressure cooker add cleaned toor dal,1 cup of water.
3.Add garlic,6 small onions,turmeric powder,few drops of oil and pressure cook for about 5 whistles.
4.Allow the pressure to put down by itself.Open the lid.Mash toor dal and keep it aside.
5.To a pan add oil.Add mustard seeds.Allow them to crackle.Slice the remaining small onions and add to it.
6.Add asafoetida,curry leaves,dried red chilli and coriander leaves.Saute them well.
7.Add chopped tomatoes,required amount of salt and cook till they get mushy.
8.Add cooked,mashed dal and stir them well.Add the coconut paste.Rinse the jar with little water and add it to the curry.Mix well and put off the flame when it starts to boil.Serve it with Rice.
