Pasi paruppu Sambar /Yellow Moong dal Sambar



Pasi paruppu/Yellow Moong Dal is healthier one compared to other dals. It is a good source of protein, essential amino acids, potassium, iron, fiber and vitamin B1. It also helps to lower cholesterol and control sugar levels.It is one of the best foods that you can think for your child because it is easy to digest.It is a perfect combination with white rice,Ven pongal.Amma used to make this quick dish with chapati.I have cooked using pressure cooker .you can use same method for open pot.

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Pasi paruppu/Yellow moong dal – 1/2 cup
Small onions – 5
Green chillies – 3
Garlic – 4 pods
Tomato – 1 roughly diced
Curry leaves –  a few
Coriander leaves – a few
Cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder -1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
 
For tempering
 
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Small onions – 6 (finely chopped)
Round red chilli – 5
Curry leaves – a few
 

METHOD

1.Dry roast moong dal in a pan for about 1 min.So the raw smell goes.Then add water to it and soak for about 5-10 minutes.Drain the water and add moong dal to the pressure cooker.



2.Add the whole small onions,green chillies,garlic,tomato,curry leaves,coriander leaves,cumin seeds,turmeric powder,red chilli powder,a few drops of oil and salt to taste.



3.Pour about 1 1/2 cups of water.Close the lid.Allow for about 3 whistles.

4.In a kadai,Add oil.Temper it with mustard seeds,small onions,red chilli,curry leaves.Now add the cooked moong dal to the kadai.You can add a table spoon of ghee to it.close the lid and put off the flame.Yellow moong dal Sambar is ready.Garnish with coriander leaves.
