Rava Puttu


Puttu is a common breakfast in our food menu.This puttu is made with Rava / Semolina / Sooji. Amma used to make Rice flour puttu,Ragi puttu often.But Rava puttu is made Occasionally.It is so easy to make and it tastes great with sugar and coconut milk.You can also have it with Bananas or kadala curry.I love Rava puttu more than other puttu.


Preparation Time : 15 mins
Cooking Time : 10 mins
Serves : 3 persons


INGREDIENTS REQUIRED


Rava / Semolina /Sooji – 2 cup

Warm Water – 1 cup
Salt to taste
Freshly grated coconut – 1 cup
 

METHOD

1.Dry roast the rava in a pan for about 5- 6 minutes in medium flame stirring continuously.Once the color changes lightly remove the pan from the flame and transfer it a bowl.If you already have roasted rava skip this step.

 



2.To 1 cup of water add about 1/4 tsp of salt and mix well.Sprinkle little water and start mixing it using your hand.Keep on adding water little by little and mix till the rava becomes wet completely and resembles like bread crumbs.

 




3.Take about 2/3 of water in a Puttu Kudam and allow it to boil.In the puttu kuzhal(mould for making puttu) put the perforated disc at the bottom.Ensure it is properly placed.

 




4.Add some grated coconut to the bottom of puttu kuzhal .Then add handful of rava mixture followed by coconut. Continue adding Rava mixture and finally some coconut on the top.close the puttu kuzhal with the cap.

 



5.Place the Puttu Kuzhal on top of the Puttu Kudam and allow it to steam.

 


6.When the steam starts coming out through the holes in the cap.Remove the puttu kuzhal and take out the steamed puttu by pushing the perforated dish at the bottom of kuzhal.Serve it hot with coconut milk and sugar.
