Tomato Onion Chutney

Tomato onion chutney is my favorite chutney and I do it regularly for Dosa,Idli.Its so tasty.My daughter too loves this chutney a lot.I ask amma to make this chutney often.Hope all will try this chutney and love its taste.

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 15 mins.
Serves : 3 persons


Tomatoes – 2 (roughly chopped)
Onion – 1(roughly chopped)
Dried Red chilli – 5 
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Peppercorns – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 1 tbsp


1.To a pan,Add oil.Add mustard seeds allow it to crackle.Add urad dal and cook till they get light golden.

2.Add peppercorns,dried red chilli,Curry leaves
3.Add Ginger pieces,Asafoetida and Onion.
4.When the onion turns translucent.Add required salt, turmeric powder,Tomatoes.

5.Cook till they get mushy.Put off the flame.Allow it to cool down.Add it to a blender and make a smooth paste without adding water.Transfer it to bowl.Serve it with idli,dosa,uttappam.
