Vellarikai Pachadi


Vellarikai Pachadi is a Kerala dish.You can see this recipe in Kerala sadya menu.The dish is a combination of sweetness from the coconut and sourness from the yogurt.Definitely try this healthy,tasty,refreshing and simple Vellarikai pachadi and Enjoy!

Serves – 3 Persons


INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Vellarikai /- 300 gm ( Peeled,deseeded and cut into small cubes)
Onion – 1/2 (finely sliced)
Curd – 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Dried Red chilli – 6
Curry leaves – a sprig
Asafoetida – a pinch

For Grinding
Coconut – 5 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
Green chilli – 3


METHOD

1.Make a smooth paste of the ingredients given in For Grinding.
2.To a kadai. Add the cucumber.Cook the cucumber along with salt by adding about a cup of water till they turn soft.
3.Beat the curd in a bowl.To the cooked cucumber add the smooth coconut paste and put off the flame.After they get cool down add the beaten curd.
4.To another pan,Add coconut oil.To it add Mustard seeds,Sliced Onion,Dried red chilli,Asafoetida and Curry leaves .Pour this tempering into the cucumber curd mixture.
