Barnyard millet green peas pulao/kuthiraivali pachai pattani pulao

Barnyard millet is rich in iron,fiber,protein.Low in calories ,Gluten free.This millets becomes one of the ideal food for diabetics.I have tried dosa,health drink,porridge and paniyaram because amma used to make them but I have not tried any other recipes with it.As one of my blog visitor requested for this recipe I tried this pulao today for my lunch along with onion raita.It was really tasty.I and my husband loved the taste.Even my kid enjoyed eating it.So we planned to include millets in our weekly meal plan hereafter.Probably I will post millet recipes weekly once.Lets get into the recipe.

Cooking Time : 20 mins
Serves : 2 persons

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Barnyard millet – 1 cup
Green peas – 1/2 cup
Water – 1 cup
Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 3 tbsp
Onion – 1 (big sized one sliced roughly)
Green chilli – 3
Salt – 3/4 tsp
Cinnamon – 1( 1 inch piece)
Cardamon – 2
Cloves – 3
Bay leaves – 1
Fennel seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves – a handful
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp

METHOD

1.Take millet in a bowl Soak it in sufficient amount of water and leave it for 15 minutes.

2.To a pressure cooker add ghee.Temper it with cinnamon,cardamon,cloves,bayleaves,fennel seeds,cumin seeds.

3.Add onions.Let them turn light golden.Add Green peas,green chillies and saute them well.

4.Cook the onions to golden add ginger garlic paste and let the raw smell of it go.Add salt to your taste,Coriander leaves.

5.Drain the soaked millet and add it.Mix well with the onions and peas.Add water and coconut milk.Check for salt.It should be bit salty.when the millets get cooked it will be correct.

6.Allow it to boil.When it started boil.Put the lids with the whistle in it.Reduce flame to simmer.Cook for 10 minutes.After 10 minutes remove from flame.Allow the pressure to get released by itself and open the lid after it.Serve it with raita.
