Mutton gravy

Tasty and spicy mutton gravy which tastes amazing with Rice,Pulao,Roti,Paratha.Very simple to make.I have cooked in pressure cooker.It will be a easy to cook recipe for bachelors and beginners.It is basic mutton gravy that will go well with any thing.Hope you will try this recipe on coming weekend.

You can use boneless or mutton with bones.I used mutton with bones.Ok lets get into the recipe.

Cooking Time : 35 mins
Serves : 3 persons


Mutton – 500 g
Onion – 3 (medium sized finely sliced)’
Tomato – 1(finely chopped)
Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tbsp
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
Fennel powder – 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon – 2 (1 inch piece)
Cardamon – 3
Clove – 3
Green chilli – 3
Coriander leaves – a handful
Oil – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste


1.Clean mutton.Slice onions into thin slices and chop tomatoes into small pieces.To a pressure cooker add oil.Add Cinnamon,cardamon,clove and let them sizzle.Then add Finely sliced onions.

2.Saute onions till they turn translucent.Add green chillies,Ginger garlic paste.

3.Cook till the raw smell of ginger garlic goes and the onions turn golden brown.Add tomatoes.Mix them well.Add coriander leaves.

4.Add cleaned mutton pieces.Mix well with the tomato and onion.Allow the mutton to cook.When the mutton starts to leave water.Add turmeric powder,Red chilli powder,Pepper powder,Cumin powder,Fennel powder altogether into the gravy.

5.Mix mutton well with the masala powders.Add required amount of salt.Add about 1 and 1/2 cup of water and close the cooker with the lid with the whistles on it and allow for 5 – 6 whistles.

6.After 5 – 6 whistles Remove from flame and Open it.Check whether the mutton is cooked.If not allow for more whistles.The gravy will be watery.So cook it till the water gets reduced and the gravy becomes thick.Serve it hot with Rice,Pulao,Biryani,Roti,Chapati,Roti………….
