Mushroom Kuzhambu / Mushroom in coconut curry

I cook mushrooms regularly at my home either for lunch or dinner and this is one such recipe which I make with it.Mushroom Kuzhambu tastes good with Rice,Pulao varieties,Roti,Chapati and Nan.Do try this recipe at home and give back your feedbacks.I also have posted other mushroom recipes.Check them out.

Serves : 3 Persons


Mushroom – 200g(sliced)
Small onion – 10  nos
Tomato – 1(finely chopped)
Green chillies – 2
Curry leaves – 2 sprig
Grated coconut – 1/3 cup
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 and 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tsp


1.Rinse mushroom and pat dry them with Paper towel.Slice them into thin pieces.
2.In a pan heat  1 tsp of oil.To the hot oil add fennel seeds.Then add ginger garlic paste.Saute them well in oil.Then add small onions to it.
3.Saute small onions to translucent.Then add chopped tomatoes.Cook till the turn mushy.Then add grated coconut and saute them well for few minutes.
4.Transfer this sauteed ingredients to a grinding jar and grind them to a fine smooth paste.Add water if required.
5.To a pan add 2 tsp of oil.Then add green chillies,curry leaves and sliced mushroom.Saute them all well in oil.Close the pan with the lid and allow the mushroom to cook for 2-3 minutes.Mushroom will leave water while cooking.
6.Add Turmeric powder,Red chilli powder and coriander powder to it and mix well with mushrooms.Add ground paste,1 cup of water and required amount of salt to it.Close the pan with a lid and cook for few minutes.Mushroom kuzhambu is ready.
