Curry leaves curry / Karuveppilai Kuzhambu

Curry leaves which is also known as Karuveppilai in tamil has numerous health benefits.Curry leaves are rich in Vitamin A,B,Calcium and also contain some important amino acids.Its an anti oxidant.So it prevents us from harmful diseases like cancer,Heart diseases.It is good for diabetics patient.It is a remedy for cold.They also give nice aroma to the dish Coming to this recipe this is so simple to make since it does not require any chopping.It is so instant,quick to make and requires only simple ingredients which are available at the spice box.But at the end the curry tastes simply amazing and aromatic.This curry leaves curry will be a good way to take curry leaves in our food since at most times we throw them out when they are added in other dishes.Try this simple curry and enjoy it with Rice.It goes well with Rice, veggie dal kootu and appalam.Lets get into the recipe now.

Serves : 3 Persons


For roasting and grinding

Gingelly oil –  2 tsp 
Curry leaves – 2 handful
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Toor dal – 2 tsp
Peppercorns – 1 tsp
Dried Red chilli – 6
Tamarind – a small lemon size

For Tempering

Gingelly oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste


1.Heat 1 tsp of Oil in a pan and fry curry leaves for about 2 minutes.Transfer them to a plate.Allow them to cool.
2.To the same pot add 1 tsp of oil and roast Urad dal,Toor dal,Peppercorns,Dried Red chilli,Tamarind until they turn golden for few minutes.
3.Allow the roasted ingredients to cool down and add them to a grinder jar and blend them into smooth paste adding water.
4.Heat about 1 tbsp of oil and add mustard seeds.Let them crackle.Add the ground paste.Rinse the jar with water and it to the pan.Add require amount of salt and allow them to boil.When it starts to bubble out and oil begins to float.Switch off the flame.
Serve it hot with Rice and Appalam.It tastes yummy together.
