Clam(Chippi meen) Roast

Clam which is also known as chippi meen in tamil and kakka irachi in malayalam.I have tried mussels fry which was made by my mom’s colleague.But I haven’t tasted clams.Whenever I see clams in hypermarket I wish to cook it but I usually hesitate to buy since I don’t know how to clean them.Two weeks before I tasted it when my neighbour cooked Kakka Erachi Ularthiyathu.She taught me to how to clean them.I liked it and decided to buy and cook them finally.I cooked them in my own version.I made it along with Fish curry for Rice.Hope you too will like it and try it.

Serves : 2- 3 Persons

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Clams – 500 g
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Onions – 2 (medium size,finely chopped)
Garlic – 1 tbsp (finely sliced)
Ginger – 1 tbsp (finely sliced)
Curry leaves -2 sprigs
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Kashmiri Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Coconut oil – 1 tbsp

METHOD

1.Clean the clam thoroughly.Press them and Remove the greyish-black thing found inside them. Wash it in plenty of water to remove dirt and grit and finally squeeze the clams to remove water.
2.To a kadai add coconut oil.Once it get hot add mustard seeds.Let them crackle.Add chopped onions.Saute them till they turn light golden.Crush sliced ginger,garlic with a mortar and pestle and add them.Saute them well.Add cleaned clams to it.Fry them well for about 5 mins with the onions.
3.Add Turmeric powder,Red chilli powder,Kashmiri red chilli powder,required amount of salt,pepper powder and mix well.Fry them.Cover with a lid and allow it to cook for about 15 mins stirring it occasionally in between until it turns dry and brown in color.Finally add curry leaves.
Serve it hot with Rice,chapati,Appam,Idiyappam.
