Soya chunks dry masala – சோயா சங்ஸ் மசாலா

Yesterday I watched the longest lunar eclipse of the century with my Kid and hubby. It was so good to see the white moon turn to a blood moon. We waited for a long time and watched it. I was wondering of it. I was so excited about it and made a call to everyone to watch it. I was fortunate to witness this astonishing event. But I wished I had a telescope.
Coming to my Recipe
Soya chunks/meal maker is my favourite one. At home when I or my sister used to make veg biryani we add soya chunks to it. I used to pick them all to my plate. I also make soya chunks biryani. At my home, the most commonly made dish with soya chunks is Soya chunks fry. We all love it. I made some improvement to it and came out with this dish. It tastes well with Ghee Rice, Pulao, Biryani, chapati…
Preparation Time : 30 mins
Cooking Time : 30 – 40 mins
Serves : 3 Persons

Soya chunks – 2 cups

For Marination

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Kashmiri chilli powder – 1/2 tbsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Aniseed powder – 1/4 tsp
Corn flour – 1 tbsp
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

For masala

Onions – 2
Tomato – 1
Green chilli – 3
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a few
Coriander leaves – a few
Curd – 1 tbsp
Kashmiri Red chilli powder – 1 tsp(if required)

1. Wash and soak soya chunks in water for 30 minutes. Squeeze out the water and add them to a mixing bowl. To it, add all the marination ingredients along with 1 tsp of garlic paste and mix them well. To a kadai add oil for frying and fry these marinated soya chunks in batches till they turn golden. Remove them from the oil and keep them aside.
2.To the same kadai.Add oil if required. Since there will be oil left after frying. Add chopped onions. Saute them well in oil for few minutes. Add 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste. Saute till the raw smell goes.
3. Add curry leaves, green chillies, chopped tomatoes and mix well. Cook for 2 -3 minutes. Now add the fried soya chunks. Mix it well with the masala. Add 1 tbsp of curd. Combine them all together. Check for salt and then add it if required. I have added about 1 tsp of Kashmiri chilli powder at this point as it was less spicy. You can add it if required. Sprinkle some water and allow it to cook for few more minutes. Finally, add chopped coriander to it.
Serve with Rice,Pulao,Biryani,chapati or roti.
