Drumstick leaves Rice-முருங்கைக்கீரைப் பொடி சாதம்(Murungai Keerai podi sadam)

Drumstick leaves have many health benefits. Several dishes can be made with it. This dish is made by roasting the spices, drumstick leaves and Grinding them to a powder. You can store this powder in air tight container, refrigerate and use it. It tastes good. In this way, you can make kids to eat the green. Even people who hate it. I made it along with Brinjal stir fry. You can also it with Papads,fryums. Let’s see how to make this simple Rice Recipe.

Preparation Time : 30 mins

Serves : 2 Persons

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Parboiled Rice – 1 cup
Salt to taste

For Dry roasting and Grinding

Drumstick leaves – 2 and 1/2 cup
Chana dal – 1 tbsp
Urad dal – 1/2 tbsp
Sesame seeds – 2 tbsp
Tamarind – gooseberry size
Dried red chilli – 6

For Tempering

Sesame oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1/2 tbsp
Chana dal – 1 tbsp

METHOD

1. Wash and soak Rice in water for about 20 mins. Then drain the water. Add the soaked rice to a pressure cooker along with 2 cups of water and cook for 4 whistles. After the pressure gets reduced. Open the lid and spread out the rice in a plate for it to cool down. Fluf it up with a fork.
2. Remove the drumstick leaves from the stem and wash them well in water. Pat them dry with a cloth or tissue.
3. In a kadai dry roast Chana dal, Urad dal When they turn light brown. Add dried red chillies. Roast them for a few minutes. Then add Sesame seeds, Tamarind. Roast them all well together for few more minutes in low flame. Do this dry roasting in medium to low flame. So that the spices don’t get burnt.
4. Add them to a grinding jar and grind them to a powder.
5. In the same kadai add the cleaned, washed leaves and roast them till they get dry and crisp. Remove them from kadai. Cool it to cool down. Add them to grinding jar along with the ground spices and grind them to a powder.
6.Heat oil in a Kadai. Once it is hot, Add mustard seeds. After they crackle. Add chana dal, urad dal and fry them to golden. Then add in the ground powder. Mix them well for a minute. Switch off the flame. Add the cooked Rice to it. Mix them well. Add salt as per taste. Serve hot
