Drumstick leaves vada – முருங்கைக்கீரை வடை(Murungai keerai vadai)

When it is chill out. No doubt everyone will love to have some hot snacks with a cup of chai or coffee. How about a healthy vada  with drumstick leaves. So simple and easy to make vada for your snack time. Let’s see how to make it
Preparation Time : 3 hr(soaking dal)
Cooking Time : 25 mins
Makes 15 vadas


Chana dal – 1 cup
Drumstick leaves – 1 cup
Onion – 1(Big size, chopped)
Ginger – small piece(chopped)
Garlic – 3 to 4 pods(chopped)
Salt to taste
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Dried red chilli – 2
Green chilli – 2 or 3(chopped)
Oil – for frying


1. Rinse Chana dal with water for 2 – 3 times. Then Soak it in water for 3 hours. After 3 hours drain the water and add them to Grinding jar. Take about 2 – 3 tbsp of soaked Chana dal and reserve it for later. To the Grinding jar also add Cumin seeds, Fennel seeds and dried red chilli. Grind them little coarsely.
2. Transfer the ground Chana dal to a mixing bowl. Add the saved Chana dal to it. Then add chopped green chillies, chopped onions, Drumstick leaves, chopped ginger, chopped garlic and required amount of salt. Mix them all together with your hand.
3.Heat oil for frying vadas in a pan/kadai.Grease your hands with oil. Take a small ball of the vada mix and Make round patties with it. Check whether the oil is hot enough by dropping a small piece of mix into the oil. It should bubble and float up. If it sinks it is not hot enough.When it is hot drop the made vadas and fry them on both sides till they turn golden and crisp outside. Serve hot with Chutney.
