What I cooked for Lunch? – Carrot poriyal-Carrot stir fry-கேரட் பொரியல்

Hi all. Today my lunch menu was White Rice, Radish/Mullangi sambar, Carrot poriyal(stir-fry), Curd, fryums and Pickle.

Coming to carrot poriyal/stir-fry. I know it is a simple recipe. Each people will have their own style of cooking. I posted this recipe so that you will know how I make this poriyal/Stir-fry. There were days when I too don’t know how to make this stir-fry and was asking mom this recipe. So it’s a recipe for newbies to the kitchen, bachelors. This stir fry goes well with Sambar as well as other kuzhambu varieties. But sambar is my personal choice. You can also take a look at Carrot Rice/Carrot sadam which I posted earlier.
Now let’s see how to make this easy poriyal or stirfry.


Preparation Time: 20 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Serves : 3 persons

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED 

Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 2 Tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Onion – 1 (medium sized, thinly sliced) 
Green chillies – 2(chopped)
Carrot – 4 (grated) 
Curry leaves – a sprig
Salt to taste

METHOD 

1. Wash the carrots. Peel off the skin and grate them finely with a grater. Slice the onions and chop the green chillies. To a pan add oil. When it hot, add Mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Then add urad dal and Cumin seeds. Add sliced onions, chopped green chillies. Saute the onions well in oil till they turn little translucent. Add the grated carrot. Add salt as required. Saute them well and cook till they are done this may take about 10 mins. Finally, add Curry leaves to them. Saute for a minute and then Remove from flame.

Serve with Rice and sambar.
