What I cooked for Breakfast – Egg Capsicum Masala -முட்டை கேப்சிகம் மசாலா(Muttai Capsicum masala)

An egg is always a Lifesaver in cooking. You can make many dishes out of it. You can also pair it with many other veggies and make awesome dishes. Itself can be taken as a food or can be made as a compliment to other dishes. This dish Egg capsicum masala is a combination of egg, capsicum and few basic ingredients. It goes well with Chapati, Roti and even with Rice. I made this side dish along with Chapati for my breakfast. So easy and simple to make and take little time to prepare.

Cooking Time: 20 mins
Serves : 3


Egg – 5 (Hardboiled, Peeled)
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 2 Tsp
Cumin seeds –  1/2 tsp
Onion – 1(Big sized, thinly sliced)
Capsicum – 2(Medium sized, chopped into cubes)
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 and 1/2 Tsp
Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt as required


1.Hard boil the eggs.Peel off the shells. Slice them into halves. Remove the egg yolks. Keep them aside. Again slice the egg white to halves. Slice onions. Chop capsicum. Keep all the ingredients ready.
2.Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Then add urad dal and cumin seeds. Add sliced onions. Saute them to light golden and translucent. Now add the chopped capsicum to it. Saute them in oil for a few minutes.

3. Then add turmeric powder, Red chilli powder, Coriander powder, Cumin powder and salt as required. Combine well. Sprinkle some water. Cover with a lid and allow them to cook. After 3 minutes add the egg whites and give a nice mix. Cook for a minute and switch of the flame. Finally, add the egg yolks and give a mix. That’s it Egg capsicum masala is ready.

Serve hot with Rice or chapati
