
Hi all. How are you all? Hoping everyone is doing well. I have been busy last week. As I have migrated from Blogspot to WordPress.It was a new platform for me. So I am in the process of learning it. And sorry for the delay in posting new Recipe. Today lets see the recipe of Arisi Paruppu Sadam. It is a simple recipe and time saving one that you can choose to cook on a lazy day and it will go on within your budget. This recipe will be sure helpful for bachelors and newly cooking ones. This dish will be a perfect one when had with veggie stir fry with potato or brinjal. I had it with brinjal stir fry and mango pickle. Even a simple appalam/pappadam will go well with it. Let’s quickly get into the recipe.

Serves : 2

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
- Rice – 1 Cup
- Toor Dal – 1/2 Cup
- Tomato – 1 (medium-sized,roughly chopped)
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Ghee
For Tempering
- Gingelly oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Shallots/Small onions – 1/2 cup (roughly sliced)
- Garlic – 6
- Green chillies – 2
- Dried Red Chillies – 3 to 4
- Peppercorns – 1/2 tsp
- Curry leaves – a sprig
- Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp
METHOD
1. Soak Rice and Toor dal together in the required amount of water for 30 mins. Drain the water and keep them aside. Heat Oil in a pressure cooker. Then add mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Now add Cumin seeds. Then add sliced shallots, garlic and curry leaves. Saute them for 2 mins. Then add green chillies, dried red chillies, peppercornscurry leaves and asafoetida. Saute them well for 2 – 3 mins. Then add chopped tomatoes, salt to taste and turmeric powder.

2. Add the drained Rice and toor dal into the cooker. Mix well. Now add 3 cups of water in the ratio of 1: 2.Here for 1 cup rice and 1/2 cup toor dal. I added 3 cups of water. You can add another 1/2 cup to 1 cup water. if you need the rice little mashy.Pressure cook for 4 whistles in medium flame. Switch off the flame and Remove the lid after 10 mins.

Serve hot adding ghee with Potato fry/Brinjal fry, Appalam/Fryums and Pickle.
