Yesterday I made Cabbage Rice, Soya chunks 65 and cucumber raita. I planned to make lemon rice and cabbage pakoda at first. Then changed my mind to cabbage rice. Cabbage rice is always a best option to make people eat cabbage. Cabbage is often avoided because of its unpleasant aroma. I can bet even people who hate cabbage will eat this rice and they will never find a trace of cabbage unless you say them. Even kids will love it. You can pack this rice for their lunch box. You can have this rice with any veggie fry and raita.

Serves : 3
Gingelly oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
Chana dal – 1 and 1/2 tbsp
Groundnut – 2 tbsp
Dried Red chilli – 2(broke into pieces)
Green chilli – 2(slit into half)
Curry leaves – a few
Onion – 1 (medium sized, chopped)
Asafoetida – a pinch
Chopped Cabbage – 2 and 1/2 cup(tightly chopped)
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Kashmiri Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Cooked Rice – 3 cups (loosely packed)
1.Heat oil in a pan. Add Mustard seeds let them crackle. Then add Cumin seeds,urad dal, channa dal, groundnut. Fry them to golden. Now add curry leaves, broken dried red chilli pieces, green chillies and asafoetida . Saute them. Add chopped onions.Saute them till they turn pink and translucent. Then add chopped cabbage pieces and mix well.
2. Allow the cabbage to cook for 4-5 minutes. Then add salt, Turmeric powder, Kashmiri Red chilli powder. Combine the masalas well with the cabbage and allow it cook for 5 minutes. Stir them occasionally. Switch off the flame. Add the cooked rice into it and mix well. Finally squeeze a lemon into it and mix well so that rice is mixed well with the prepared masala. Check for salt and add if required. Serve hot with Raita.
