Potato Rice – Urulai Kizhangu Sadam

Potato will a favorite veggie for most of the people.This potato rice is so simple to make and can be cooked in no time.Its a best recipe for lunch box.You can pair it with chutney or raita.Even leftover rice can be used for this.

Serves : 2

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Gingelly oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Chana dal – 1 tbsp

Urad dal – 2 tsp

Onion- 1(medium sized, chopped)

Dried red chillies – 3(broken into pieces)

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Asafoetida – a generous pinch

Potato – 2(medium sized, chopped into small pieces)

Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp

Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

Sambar powder – 2 tsp(adjust as per your taste)

Salt to taste

Grated coconut – 1/2 cup

Cooked rice – 3 cups

METHOD

1.Heat oil in a Kadai or pan. Add mustard seeds when the oil is hot. Let them splutter then add chana dal, urad dal, chopped onion. Saute the onions to light golden.

2. Add dried chilli pieces,curry leaves,asafoetida and potato pieces.Saute well.Allow it to cook for 3 to 4 minutes.Then add turmeric powder,sambar powder,red chilli powder,salt to taste and mix well.Allow the potato to get roasted well it will take about 5 minutes.Then add the grated coconut.Saute for 2 minutes.

3.Place the flame in low and Finally add the cooked rice to it and mix well.

Serve hot with coconut chutney or raita.
