Bottle gourd Dal pepper curry – a tasty recipe made with moong dal,bottle gourd cooked in a coconut pepper paste.You can serve it with Rice.Lets see how to make it.
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 20 mins
Serves : 2 – 3 Persons
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
Snake gourd(புடலங்காய்) – 250 g
Moong dal – 1/4 cup
For Grinding
Grated coconut – 1/2 cup
Dried Red chilli – 3
Pepper – 1 tsp
Urad dal – 1 tsp
For Tempering
Coconut oil – 3 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Curry leaves – 2 sprig
Coriander leaves – a few
Salt to taste
METHOD
1.Peel off the skin of snake gourd,deseed them and chop them into bite sized cubes.Add chopped snake gourd cubes and moong dal in a pressure cooker along with sufficient amount of water and a tsp of ghee.Pressure cook them for 3-4 whistles.
2.To a grinding jar add Grated coconut,Dried Red chilli,Pepper,Urad dal and grind them into a smooth paste adding water.
3.Heat Oil in a pan.Add Mustard seeds.Let them crackle.Then add asafoetida,Curry leaves,ground coconut pepper paste,.
4.Add turmeric powder and mix them well with the coconut paste.Add cooked snake gourd and dal to it.Add required amount of salt.Cook for few more minutes.Finally garnish with Coriander leaves.
Serve with Rice.It goes well with Rice,Vathal Kuzhambu/Pepper Kuzhambu/Curry leaves curry
