Kovakkai Sadam – Tindora Rice

Kovakkai Sadam a simple to make variety rice. I prepared this variety rice with white rice / raw rice. You can use normal cooking rice or Basmati rice.

Serves : 3

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED

Oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Kovakkai/Tindora – 2 Cup ( sliced)

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Curry leaves – 2 sprigs

Asafoetida – a pinch

Cooked rice – 3 Cup

For Roasting and Grinding

Chana dal – 1 tbsp

Urad dal – 1/2 tbsp

Coriander seeds – 1/2 tbsp

Sesame seeds – 1tbsp

Dried red chillies – 7

Grated coconut – 3 to 4 tbsp

METHOD

1.Roast chana dal, urad dal, Coriander seeds, Sesame seeds and dried red chillies in a tsp of oil until they get golden. Then add the grated coconut to it. Also, roast the coconut to golden. Allow them to cool down and then grind them without water.

2.Heat oil in a pan. Add Mustard seeds. Let them splutter. Then add the sliced Tindora. Saute them well in oil. Add Turmeric powder, salt as required, asafoetida and curry leaves. Allow the Tindora to cook well.

3. Add the ground masala to it and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes. Then add the cooked rice to it and mix it with the masala.

Serve hot with papads or veg fry.
