
Moong dal khichdi is very comforting food. It’s very light to the stomach. I used to make it so mushy and to a near porridge consistency. I have already posted a similar recipe arisi paruppu Sadam. Moong dal, rice, Ghee are the main ingredients of the dish. Than toor dal I love the taste of Moong dal and Moong dal is easily digestible than the other dals. Khichdi is a very good recipe for cooking newbies and bachelors too.

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
For pressure cooking
Moong dal – 1 cup
Rice – 1 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Water – 5 cups
Salt – 1 tsp
For Tempering
Ghee – 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
garlic sliced – 3 tbsp
chopped ginger – 1 tbsp
Green chillies – 2
Dried red chillies – 3
Onion – 1 (chopped)
Tomato – 2 (small size, chopped)
salt to taste
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves – a few
METHOD
1.Wash rice and moong dal well. Then soak them both in water for at least 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Then drain the water completely from it and add it to the pressure cooker. To it add 1 tbsp of ghee, turmeric powder, salt and water. Pressure cook for 5 whistles. When the pressure is released, open the lid. Mash the dal and rice well.

2. Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds let it splutter. Then add dried red chillies, sliced garlic, chopped ginger, chopped green chillies, chopped onions. add little salt and saute them well .when it turns lighr golden, add the chopped tomatoes into it. cook until the ghee begins to appear, Place the flame in low and add red chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute until the raw smell goes. add the cooked rice and dal into it along with 1.5 cups of water and mix well. Add chopped coriander leaves ,1 tbsp of ghee to it and give a nice mix .Switch off the flame.

Moong dal khichdi is ready.
Serve with pappads or pickle.
